"You don't have to," she says. "I get paid when people tip me, and that fluctuates a lot from day to day. I don't necessarily know what I'll get, nor is it my sole source of income. "I--" Have no idea how to say this and convey what's going through his head. Kurt lifts his head to press a kiss against her forehead, lingering as he tries to translate his thoughts. "The charge is dead," he answers, privately grateful for the excuse because he hates wearing it at home. It's a miracle and he's grateful to have it, but home should be where he can be himself. "Ah, the shadows? I don't want to cause trouble."

"You won't cause any trouble," she says. "If I turn out the light the laptop will only light up my face, and you could be here with me and in the shadow. If you want to. And even if people see you, I wouldn't mind. You are my boyfriend," she says.

"I'm also very strange looking," he points out mildly. Undermining his point, Kurt snuggles closer, on the verge of slipping behind her. "Alright. We can do that."

"I'm an open mutant," she says. "I don't care how you look, you're mine. People will deal with it."

"Even so." He presses a kiss to her shoulder, his tail shifting around her waist. "I'd like to stay in the shadow for now."

"If you want to," she says, letting him shift around behind her until they're both settled. "I gotta move my table if we're spooning, though."

"Ach, why didn't you say so?" And that's all the warning he gives before teleporting out from behind her, reappearing crouched next to the table. "How far back?"

"...Just around to the side, jeez," she says, laughing as she rolls back into the pillow-crater Kurt left. "So it's not broadcasting a great shot of my thigh and hip. I could have moved it."
